Our objective is to further the awareness of women in Asian culture and to promote unity, lifelong friendships, leadership, and community service.
Read Our StoryAlthough each individual sister may have different career goals, we all share one common ground - Sigma Omicron Pi. As SOPis, we have the same objective in mind: to build a strong and close-knit sisterhood together for the current house and for future generations. As sisters, we learn to understand each others' differences and to always be there for each other to depend upon.
Every sister has gained something from joining SOPi, whether it be her pledge sisters, pledge parents, big/little sis, pledge brothers, or sisters all over the nation. As cheesy as it sounds, SOPi is a "home away from home" for many sisters. We pride ourselves in being a close-knit sisterhood where SOPis are able to remain close despite the passing of college days and meet up with other sisters wherever they go around the world.
Annual events include retreats (past retreats have been to Santa Cruz and Bodega Bay), alumnae luncheon, pledge class presents, sisterhood lock-ins, sleepovers, photo shoots, formals, tahoe trip, and senior banquet. Check out the photo gallery to see pictures.
The sisterhood offers sisters a supportive network of sisters to achieve academic and social growth, and provides an enviroment where members can utilize and develop their leadership skills through holding positions within the sorority.
As SOPis, we strive to stay involved in our community, whether it be volunteering our time at local agencies or raising money to donate to charities. While Sigma Omicron Pi does not have a national philanthropy, every semester we choose philanthropy events that maintain our commitment to the Asian American commuity and/or hold meaning to sisters within the house.
Common events and causes are: The Berkeley Project, Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness & Prevention Walk, volunteering at local food banks, Asian American Donor Program (AADP) tabling, and hosting clothing drives and activities to benefit the Malala Fund.
